    2020 Great Conjunction - I

A wide view of the crescent Moon, Jupiter, Saturn conjunction from December 16th. I should've been expecting it, but I was still surprised to see how bold the Zodiacal Light was as it engulfed the three of them. The view shows the trio setting into the San Francisco Peaks along the Sunset Crater-Wupatki Road. The Cygnus Milky Way, Summer Triangle & lots of airglow are showing up in there too.

    2020 Great Conjunction — II

The 2020 Great Conjunction was a multi-day event with separation between Jupiter and Saturn getting tighter and more impressive every night through December 21st. This image was captured December 16th when the Earthshine illuminated crescent moon was grouped tighter with the planets. They were descending into the San Francisco Peaks here with Callisto and Ganymede just barely visible, nestled top left and lower right of Jupiter. ------------------- 4 exposures stacked with Starry Landscape Stacker to reduce noise and 2 additional images aligned/stacked to aid HDR with the crescent moon & earthshine. • Canon EOS 6D Mark II • Canon EF70-300 f/4-5.6 at 105mm • 4x6sec, f/4.5, ISO 12,800 + 2 shorter exposures for moon HDR

    2020 Great Conjunction — III

A moonlit view of the Great Conjunction as Saturn and Jupiter settled into the saddle between Agassiz' and Humphrey's Peaks north of Flagstaff, Arizona. The planets are separated by just a third the diameter of the moon at this point on December 20th. The Galilean Moons are visible beside Jupiter—from upper left to lower right: Callisto, Ganymede (top left) and Io, Europa (bottom right) -------------------- Canon 6D Mark II Canon EF70-300mm f/4-5.6 at 300mm • 4x4sec., f/5.6, ISO 12,800 stacked in Starry Landscape stacker to reduce noise • 3x0.5sec., f/7.1, ISO 6,400 stacked in Photoshop to apply HDR/narrow aperture on planets/moons. • Processed to reduce star trailing
